Maths Department

At Aberdour we want children to foster a love for mathematics. We believe in learning through concrete and pictorial work before moving onto the abstract level of learning. We aim for pupils to acquire a deep, long-term, secure and adaptive understanding of the subject.

Time is spent developing deep knowledge of the key ideas within the curriculum to underpin future learning. We strive for pupils to solve unfamiliar word problems, and undertake complex reasoning, using the appropriate mathematical vocabulary. From year 5 there is a strong emphasis on the 11+ enabling them to tackle the entrance exams with confidence and determination.
